SOCIAL ISSUE

Menstrual hygiene management (MHM) is an essential aspect of hygiene for women and adolescent girls between menarche and menopause. Despite being an important issue concerning women and girls in the menstruating age group, there is limited evidence of menstrual management in the rural areas of the state.

PROPOSED SOLUTION

  • By educating the rural women and girls about mensuration, menstrual hygiene management, importance of toilets, handwashing and disease related to reproductive tract due to poor hygiene.

  • By distributing and emphasizing on the use of reusable sanitary or cloth pads to overcome the problem of disposal.

  • By making them aware about the consequences of ignorance, misconceptions, unsafe practices and illiteracy of mensuration.

  • Further research is also needed to better understand the impact of poor MHM in different contexts and which interventions are appropriate and effective. This includes emergency settings and the differentiated needs of vulnerable groups such as minorities or women with disabilities.

CONCERNS

The issues are of great importance and concern as mensuration and menstrual practices still face many social, cultural and religious restrictions which are a big barrier in the path of menstrual hygiene management and Inaccurate, incomplete or little knowledge about mensuration is a great hindrance in its management.
