2 volunteers facilitated Social Emotional Learning session to build empathy and emotional intelligence for 25 teachers of Lourdes Mada Public School, Anchal.
Our volunteers Avani and Captain Lakshmi Nantarajan organised an online Social Emotional Learning (SEL) session for the teachers of Lourdes Mada Public School, Anchal on June 21, 2025. The session was coordinated by 2 volunteers, engaging 25 teachers from the school.
The volunteers realized that truly empathetic, emotionally safe classrooms can only thrive when teachers themselves are equipped with tools to support emotional well-being. While students had already been introduced to emotional regulation toolkits, this session aimed to bridge the gap — ensuring both students and educators share a common language of emotional intelligence. 💬
The session encouraged self-reflection, helping teachers recognize how their own thoughts, emotions, and well-being shape daily interactions with students. It also introduced practical tools for fostering empathy, inclusiveness, and emotional awareness in the classroom, especially vital in rural and semi-urban schools where such exposure is rare.
Teachers reported increased self-awareness, deeper understanding of student behavior, and a renewed commitment to creating emotionally sensitive learning spaces. The session emphasized that a teacher’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being is key to building balanced, compassionate classrooms.
This initiative directly contributed to SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by reinforcing emotional literacy, promoting teacher-student empathy, and nurturing inclusive leadership.
A heartfelt thanks to Avani, Lakshmi, the resource person, and all 25 participating teachers for taking this vital step towards healthier, more mindful classrooms! 🌍✨
