5 volunteers facilitated Model Parliament 2.0 engaging 20 students in meaningful debates on ministries focused on empathy, dignity, ethics and alternative futures at Kollam.

Our volunteer Avani organised Model Parliament 2.0 as part of VolSchool, in collaboration with Lourdes Matha Public School, Anchal, on June 19, 2025, at Kollam.

With the support of 5 dedicated volunteers, this creative, student-led parliament engaged 20 students in meaningful debates under unique, thought-provoking ministries:

⚡ Ministry of Human Emotions: Addressing emotional burdens as shared, social concerns
⚖️ Ministry of Dignity: Exploring fairness, respect, and power dynamics
💼 Ministry of Ethical Business: Advocating justice and fairness in business practices
🐾 Ministry of Inter-species Citizenship: Promoting care for animals and stray welfare
🕊️ Ministry of Silence: Encouraging reflection and challenging toxic productivity culture

These aren’t just theoretical - students debated real-world issues, learned parliamentary processes, and imagined alternative futures rooted in justice, empathy, and ethics.

The initiative resulted in the localisation of the UN SDGs, especially SDG 3, 8, 10, 15, and 16, while building essential skills like ethical reasoning, critical thinking, and public policy awareness. It also provided students with practical exposure to structured debates, respectful dialogue, and imaginative policy-making that challenges conventional ideas of justice, leadership, and our responsibilities — not just to people, but to the planet and all living beings.

Kudos to Avani, our passionate volunteers, and the young changemakers at Lourdes Mada Public School! 🌍✨
