10 volunteers raised awareness on singleused plastics and surveyed 250 people in Ernakulam

We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Chintan Environmental Research and Action Group and the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change for a comprehensive survey in Kochi from August 14 to 21, 2023. This initiative was a significant step in understanding public perspectives on plastic waste management, the ban on single-use plastics, and the role of social media in fostering awareness and driving behavioral change.
A team of 10 passionate volunteers worked diligently, conducting over 245 surveys across Kochi. Our outreach included a diverse group of individuals, from waste pickers to homemakers, college students to small vendors, enabling us to gather a well-rounded perspective on plastic waste issues and the effectiveness of social media as a tool for advocacy.
As part of this project, we are committed to supporting Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in effectively implementing the 'Ban on Single-Use Plastics' under the Plastic Waste Management Rules 2021. Kochi Corporation has been selected as one of the participating ULBs, and we are eager to provide essential resources and training to enhance their efforts.
To bolster ULBs' capabilities, we will be providing:
- A ready-to-use social media kit with posts on plastic waste management, tailored for an entire year.
- Hands-on training on effectively utilizing the social media kit to maximize outreach and impact.
- Surveys and consultations with four citizen groups and ULB officials to ensure the social media kit aligns with the unique needs of each locality.
Our collaboration aims to bridge the gap between policy implementation and community engagement, ensuring that plastic waste management initiatives are not just enforced but also embraced by the public. With active participation from local communities, ULBs, and policymakers, we are confident that Kochi will emerge as a model city for sustainable plastic waste management.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue working towards a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future! 🌏🌿
