30 volunteers engaged in initiatives promoting sustainable tourism in Kozhikode

Captains Social Foundation, in collaboration with Faizal & Shabana Foundation, actively participated in a 5-day Initial Assessment Study Camp from October 18-22, 2022, as part of the STREET Project led by the Kerala Responsible Tourism Mission in Kadalundi, Kozhikode. The study camp focused on community-based tourism development, with volunteers conducting assessments to understand local assets, challenges, and ongoing interventions.
Volunteers engaged in mapping ecological, social, and cultural assets, identifying issues and challenges faced by the community, and evaluating ongoing interventions. To achieve this, they interacted with community stakeholders through structured and semi-structured interviews, individual and focus group discussions, and community meetings.
They also utilized participatory research techniques, including PRA and RRA methods such as seasonal calendars, resource maps, historical mapping, matrix ranking, hazard mapping, and timeline charts, along with collecting oral histories.
This initiative provided valuable insights into sustainable tourism opportunities while fostering meaningful collaboration between volunteers and the local community. We extend our gratitude to all stakeholders and volunteers for their dedication in making this initiative a success!
