5 volunteers planted 25 trees to create climate awareness among 25 school students in Kollam

On July 13, 2022, Captains Social Foundation, in collaboration with Haritha Keralam Mission Kollam and Kollam Sanchari, expanded the Pachathuruthu Project to Vimala Hridaya English Medium L.P. School. This initiative marked the creation of the second Pachathuruthu (Green Island), with 5 dedicated volunteers and 25 students planting 25 trees within the school premises.

Pachathuruthu is an initiative aimed at establishing 150+ Green Islands in schools across Kollam, promoting environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation. Through this project, volunteers and students actively participate in creating green spaces that enhance air quality, biodiversity, and climate resilience within school campuses.

1) Encouraging Environmental Awareness – Involving students in tree plantation fosters a sense of responsibility toward nature.
2) Supporting Climate Action – Trees act as carbon sinks, reducing the impact of climate change.
3) Promoting Biodiversity – These green spaces provide shelter for birds, insects, and other wildlife.
4) Creating a Healthier Learning Environment – A greener school campus contributes to better air quality and overall well-being.

Through initiatives like Pachathuruthu, we are taking small yet meaningful steps toward a greener, more sustainable future!
