68 volunteers created 68 paper bags to raise awareness about plastic pollution in Ernakulam.

On August 22, 2022, the Department of Fashion Design, KMM College, Thrikkakara took a significant step towards environmental conservation by organizing the #MyPaperBag Campaign in support of the #EveryIndianVolunteering Campaign. The initiative aimed to promote sustainable alternatives to plastic, encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly habits within the community.
The program was coordinated by our dedicated volunteers, Safna and Jyothis, and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 50 volunteers. Guided by their teachers, the students put their creativity and effort into crafting hundreds of paper bags, which were later distributed to local shops near the college. This thoughtful gesture was met with appreciation from shopkeepers, local residents, and even other departments of the college, amplifying the impact of the campaign.
The campaign’s motto, "Be a part of the solution and not part of pollution," resonated throughout the event. In addition to making and distributing paper bags, the volunteers conducted an engaging workshop for students, faculty, and non-teaching staff, teaching them the skill of making paper bags. This hands-on experience not only equipped participants with a sustainable alternative but also raised awareness about the environmental hazards posed by plastic pollution.
By actively involving the college community, #MyPaperBag Campaign fostered a sense of responsibility and achievement among students. The initiative successfully inspired a shift toward eco-friendly practices, proving that collective action can lead to meaningful change.
Let’s continue to take steps towards a greener future—one paper bag at a time! ♻️🌱
